Routing
Configuring where clean mail is delivered for each domain and mailbox.
Domain target server
For each protected domain, the control panel lets you set a target server — the mail server address MXGuard delivers filtered mail to.
The target server can be specified as:
- Hostname:
mail.company.com - IP address:
192.168.1.10 - Cloud provider address:
company-com.mail.protection.outlook.com
Delivery port
Port 25 (SMTP) is used by default. If your server accepts mail on a non-standard port, set it in the domain settings.
Per-mailbox routing
Individual mailboxes can be routed to a different server — useful in hybrid setups where some users are on Exchange and others on Google Workspace. Configure this under Users → Route for a specific mailbox.
Fallback and retries
If the target server is temporarily unavailable (a 4xx response or a timeout), MXGuard queues the message and retries on a schedule for up to 5 days. If the server stays unreachable longer than that, the message is bounced back to the sender with an explanation.
